Location

The village of Malveira da Serra is less than five minutes walk away, with a range of shops and restaurants. The village retains its traditional charm as building is restricted, and has long been sought after due to the beauty of its setting, with the coast stretched out below, and the forest and mountains above.Sintra, a world heritage site with its castle, palaces and gardens set in lush vegetation and enjoying ravishing views is a lovely 15 minute car drive across the mountain.

Locally, there is a huge choice of the latest films in their original language with over twenty screens in four local cinema complexes, reachable within 10 minutes, as are two attractive shopping centres. The summer brings international festivals; classical music and ballet in Sintra, jazz in Estoril, and fireworks in Cascais.

Less far in the other direction is the coastal resort of Cascais, where you will find superb beaches, restaurants, night-life and shopping, as well as a charming old town with rewarding site-seeing.

Lisbon is half an hour away, and with easy access to the motorway system, a number of other world class cultural and historic sites make an enjoyable day trip. Lisbon boasts world heritage sites, and a rich cultural, culinary and night life.

The motorway network puts the Knights Templars’ castle and chapels at Tomar and Batalha within an easy day trip, as well as the ancient university town of Coimbra. On the other directions, south of the Tagus, the beautiful Sesimbra and Arrabida area are well worth an easy day trip.

Beaches

Guincho beach, world renowned for its beauty and surfing, is three km away. Many other sandy beaches are close by, each with its individual character. Less than half an hour’s drive north along the coast several beaches are well worth exploring, as are some excellent fish restaurants.

Golf

Six of Portugal’s best golf courses are within a 15 minute drive, offering new and surprising landscapes, along with first class services and facilities. Portugal is a golfer’s paradise where it is possible to play almost every day of the year, with plenty to offer both beginners and advanced players.

Weather

Portugal is a year round destination. Hot and sunny in the summer, with a refreshing breeze off the sea; windier months are July and August; Spring and Autumn are mild, ideal for sightseeing. Rainy days can occur in winter, but it is rarely cold.

Getting there

Less than two hours flight from most European cities and seven hours from New York, the house can be reached by car or taxi from Lisbon Airport in 30-40 minutes.

Located in the protected national park of Cascais-Sintra, the property is only 4km from the motorway and so half an hour from Lisbon and its cultural attactions and night life. Taxis are available and cheap, and there is an efficient bus system from the village to Cascais and Sintra; but to get the best out of your holiday we advise car hire, as there is so much to see which is not accessible by public transport.
